Marvin L. Steenhoek, 80, of Newton died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Graveside services will be held at Westfield Cemetery in Grinnell at a later date. His body has been donated to the Anatomy Department of the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

No visitation is scheduled. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to The Salvation Army. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Roy and Velma (Stanley) Steenhoek, he was born May 2, 1925, in Grinnell. He graduated from Grinnell High School and received a college degree from Parsons College in Fairfield. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On June 21, 1947, he married Dorothy Anderson in Des Moines. He was a Standard Oil agent and bulk truck driver for 27 years. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Steenhoek was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, life member of the VFW Post 1655, member of the American Legion Post 111 and a member of the Newton Lodge No. 59 AF/AM. He lived in Grinnell from 1925 to 1943 and in Newton since 1949.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert "Gene" (Rose Ann) Steenhoek of Northfield, Minn., and Tim "TJ" (Vicky) of Austell, Ga.; a daughter, Connie Steenhoek of Newton; daughter-in-law, Judy Steenhoek of Marengo; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Fred; and a sister, Jelene Brown.
