Darrell G. Hamilton, 61, of Newton died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center, officiating.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Paul and Norma (Booker) Hamilton, he was born July 24, 1944, in Des Moines. He grew up in Oskaloosa, moved to Washington in 1966 and most recently lived in Newton. He graduated from Oskaloosa Senior High School in 1963 and attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Neb. He worked as a technician for Roe Heating for 20 years and as a fire truck driver for five years for the City of Washington. He also was on the rescue and volunteer fire department in Washington from 1969 to 1988.

When he moved to Newton, he worked as a technician for Brooker Heating and Plumbing. On April 22, 2000, he married Jan Benesh in Newton. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Terri (Kevin) Duffy of Tenopah, Ariz.; a son, Tony (Chris) Hamilton of Washington; three step-sons, Rick (Julie) Scott of Hamlin, Randy (Kay) Scott of Marion and Blane (Heather) Benesh of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Georgia (Garry) Bair of Oskaloosa and Sandra Holtz of Des Moines; five nieces; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Gail.
