AMES - Mary A. Slifer, 80, of Ames died Saturday, April 19, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Estel- Perrin -Avey Funeral Home Chapel in Marshalltown with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today where the family will be available and a memorial video tribute will be presented.

The daughter of Frank and Etta (Bunse) Brisel, she was born May 27, 1922, in Ira. She received her education and graduated in Jasper County.

On Sept. 31, 1941, she married Sherman Carl Slifer in Missouri. They made Marshalltown their home, where she was employed at Fisher Controls until she retired in May 1984, after 24 years of service. She enjoyed going out to eat with Fisher retirees and friends, reading and doing school volunteer work after retirement.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sherman Ronald and Ellen Slifer of Marshalltown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Jerry Pierson of Laurel and Norma and Bob Black of Marshalltown; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, John Brisel of Newton; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and a brother.
