After a year’s stay in the County Home during which time she has been sick and a great care, Mrs. Margaret Macy died today at twelve o’clock. She was a sister of Mrs. T. A. Shelley, 415 E. Marion Street, and of R. Bicknell of Kellogg. The arrangements for the funeral have not been made but the interment will be made in the Adamson Grove Cemetery. – The Newton Daily News, Thursday, January 23, 1908

Margaret Bicknell was born May 12, 1829 in North Carolina. Before coming to Jasper County she lived as a child in Wayne County, Ind. She married Terrel Macy of Lynnville, Iowa in 1861. They lived in Newton for several years then moved to Big Rapids, Michigan, where they resided twenty years, returning to Newton in 1894. Her husband died in 1895 and she lived among relatives and friends until her death Jan. 28, 1908.

She was a good woman, a member of the Church of Christ. She was a great sufferer but very patient through it all.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a sister, Mrs. Ta. A. Shelley of Newton and a brother, S. R. Bicknell of Kellogg, and numerous relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the home of her niece, Mrs. Nobel Fugard, Rev. C. A. Tenny officiating.
