Sharon D. Wilkening, 57, of 709 S. 2nd Ave. W. died of complications of cancer Tuesday, April 8, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Tiare and the Rev. Stephen Mathison-Bowie officiating. The body will be cremated following the service. A private family burial will be held at the Newton Union Cemetery at a later date. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after noon Friday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the First Presbyterian Church, Dollars for Scholars, or to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The daughter of Frank C. and Lorna L. (Scruby) Bryan, she was born Jan. 27, 1946, in Oskaloosa. She grew up in Montezuma, lived in Marengo for two years and Ashland, Mo., for a year. She was a resident of Newton for 31 years. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1964 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central College in 1968. On May 31, 1969, she married George H. Wilkening in Montezuma.

Mrs. Wilkening was a florist and owned and operated Wilkening Enterprises. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, TTT, PEO, National Education Association and bridge and luncheon groups.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Craig Wilkening of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter Dianna Wilkening of Decorah; and her parents of Montezuma.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
