MONROE - Raymond Kenneth Vander Linden, 79, of Monroe died Thursday, Feb. 13 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Otley Reformed Church in Otley, with Pastor Vance Elzin ga officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. at the Otley Reformed Church, where the family will be present from 2 until 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International or Hospice of Jasper County. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Mr. Vander Linden was born April 3, 1923, in Pella, the son of Edward Luke and Minnie Van Zee Vander Linden. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with tours in Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland.

He was united in marriage to Alta Marie Van Zante on Feb. 10, 1948, in Otley. He was a lifelong resident of the area where he farmed and he was employed by Van Gorp Manufacturing in Pella for 20 years. He was a member of the Otley Reformed Church, Monroe Kiwanis and Gideon's International. He enjoyed handing out Bibles at schools and checking motel rooms for Bibles.

He is survived by his wife of Monroe; three daughters, Willa Mae Wood of Edina, Minn., Ardith Lou Garlock of White House, Texas, and Patricia Fay Rourke and her husband Dan of Indianola; two sons, Alan Ray Vander Linden and his wife Sheryl of Monroe, and Arvin Lee Vander Linden and his wife Ruth of Pella; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, three sisters, Jeanette Van Engelenhoven of Oskaloosa, Leona Beekhuizen and her husband John, and Betty Pol and her husband Leonard, all of Pella; three brothers, Warren and his wife Phyllis of Lyndon, Wash., Willis and his wife Violet of Leighton, and Robert, and his wife Mary of Clayton, Mo.; and two sisters-in-law, Blanche Vander Linden of Pella and Danis Hedrick and her husband Harold of Sully.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a granddaughter.
