LEIGHTON - Edward A. Van Hal, 58, of Leighton, formerly of Sully, died Thursday, Feb. 20, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Leighton Christian Reformed Church in Leighton. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is handling arrangements.

Friends may call today until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Family visitation will be held at the Leighton Christian Reformed Church in Leighton from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Memorials will be accepted to the Edward A. Van Hal Memorial Fund.

He was born Feb. 4, 1945, in Oskaloosa. He taught at the Sully Christian Grade School and for the past 30 years had been an employee at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella, where he worked as a drill press operator.

On Aug. 9, 1968, he married Betty J. Groenendyk. He enjoyed gardening and ice cream and was interested in history. He was a member of Leighton Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda J. Van Hal of De Motte, Ind., Sherrie L. and Stephen Kelly of Ripon, Calif., Jolene M. Van Hal of West Des Moines, Esther A. Van Hal of Ames and Evelyn A. Van Hal of Leighton; a grandson and four brothers, William Van Hal of London, Ontario, Canada, Marvin Van Hal of Roanoke, Texas, Bernard Van Hal of Yuba City, Calif., and Frederick, Van Hal of Kenmore, Wash.
