Norman E. Slycord, 66, of 610 E. 14th St. S., died of a heart attack Thursday, Feb. 27, at his home in Florence, Ariz.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Steve Peters and the Rev. Craig Peters, nephews, officiating. The body was donated to the International Institute for Medical Advancement in Phoenix, Ariz., for medical research and has been cremated. Private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials will De accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Cornie and Margaret (Autry) Slycord, he was born March 11, 1936, in Galesburg. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1955.

On March 31, 1956, he married Barbara M. Loupee in Newton. He worked for the Maytag Company as a machinist for 49 years and retired in 1994.

Mr. Slycord was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge No. 923 and the Legion of the Moose. He grew up in Galesburg and wintered in Florence, Ariz.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Tracy Slycord of Newton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Wilson and Darci and Kevin Shipley, both of Newton; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Dean Slycord of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Betty and Dick Peters and Tom and Margie Loupee, all of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
