Evelyn Clifine Slay, 88, of Newton, formerly of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, Feb. 27, at the care center.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hamilton United Methodist Church in Hamilton with Dr. William Ritter officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jill Leveck. Burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery. Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa is handling arrangements.

Friends may call Saturday after 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Family visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorials will be accepted to Alzheimer's disease and Related Disorders Association or to the Hamilton United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Guy and Margaret (Emerson) Bolton, she was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Hamilton. She graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1932. On Nov. 28, 1935, she married Elmer Leroy Slay in Hamilton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts, working in her rose garden, genealogy work and writing poetry.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Earl Tish of Newton and Sandra and John Parker of Oskaloosa; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent Leroy and Diane Slay of Grand Rapids, Mich.; five grandchildren; three great grandsons; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Anna Leona Perry of Mesa, Ariz. and Jean and Jess Walters of Bussey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister.
