Mrs. Smith Dies Today
76-Year-Old Woman Lived In Jasper County For The Past 55 Years
Mrs. Hugh Smith, 76, died this morning at 5:35 o’clock at the Skiff Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks.
Since coming to the United States about 55 years ago. Mrs. Smith had lived continuously on one farm north of Newton known as the Maytag Farm No. 14, but for 40 years owned by H. D. Parsons.
Born in Ireland
She was born Oct. 22, 1864, at County Cavin, Ireland, and came to the United States with her husband, mother and brothers and sisters. She was wed June 19, 1886.
She was a member of the Catholic church.
Surviving
Surviving are her husband, a sister, Mary McManus and two brothers, John and Pat McManus of Newton and also ten children, Mrs. Mamie Carstens of Newton; John T., a patient at the Veterans hospital at Wood, Wis.; Hugh M., Charles A. William E., of Newton; Leo J., in the Veterans hospital in Des Moines; Vernon, Mrs. C. H. Staubus, Mrs. Robert I. Snooks and Mrs. Ed Lovelace of Newton. There are 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at the Sacred Heart Catholic church.

To Say Rosary Tonight For Mrs. Hugh Smith
The Rosary will be said this evening at 8 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral home for Mrs. Hugh Smith, 76, who died Thursday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 ‘clock at the Sacred Heart Catholic church.

Mrs. Smith Rites Held Saturday at Catholic Church
Funeral services for Mrs. Hugh Smith, 76, were conducted at the Sacred Heart Catholic church Saturday morning at 10 o’clock by the Rev. Father T. J. McCann.
Pallbearers were Paul Grant, Walter Swihart, Estes Meyers, Paul Kelly, Jack Petted and Carl Carey. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mary and Irene Zwifelhofer and Frances and Ruth Magyar.
Mrs. Swihart was born Oct. 22, 1864 in County Cavin, Ireland, and came to the United States with her husband, mother and brothers and sisters 55 years ago. She was wed June 19, 1886.
