Dies At 90
Once Lived In Newton
Mother of Three Newton Persons Dies In Des Moines Thursday
Mrs. H. M. Sprague, 90, a former resident of Newton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Victor Ede in Des Moines Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services will be held at Lillys Funeral home in Des Moines at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon followed by graveside rites at the Newton Union cemetery at 4 o’clock.
Mrs. Sprague was a member of the Westminister United Presbyterian church of Des Moines and Rev. Orr of that church will conduct the services.
An early pioneer of Jasper county, Mrs. Sprague was living in what is now known as Lamb’s Grove when the first railroad was built through Newton and at the time President Lincoln was assassinated. She would have been 91 years old Oct. 5.
Surviving are five children, Mrs. George Fleming, Mrs. W. H Bradbury and Ralph Sprague of Newton, Frank Sprague of Fairplay, Mo., and Mrs. Mary Sprague Ede of Des Moines with whom she had made her home for many years.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sprague Rites Held
Funeral services for Mrs. H. M. Sprague, 90, were conducted at the Lilly’s Funeral home in Des Moines Saturday afternoon a short graveside rites were conducted at the Newton Union cemetery later in the afternoon.
A cousin of the deceased, Robert Halferty of Des Moines, sand “I Will Meet You in the Morning” and “City Foursquare.”
Pallbearers were grandsons John, Raymond, Charles and James Sprague, Sam Fleming and John Ede.
Rev. Orr of the Westminster United Presbyterian church of Des Moines was in charge.
