Constance M. "Connie” Rivers, 82, of 512 E. 19th St. S. died of complications of a heart attack Friday, March 28, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Newton Union Cemetery with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Old Veteran's Section of the cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Memorials will be accepted in her name and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Marvin and Beulah (Hamilton) Singletary, she was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Oakdale, La. She was a graduate of Oakdale High School in Oakdale, La. She married Ralph W. Rivers in 1941 in Louisiana. She retired as a nurse's aide at the Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wally Rivers of Newton and Michael and Denise Rivers of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Kendall Shepard of Hot Springs, Ark., and Beverly Rivers of Branson, Mo.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Cordell and Jean Singletary of Oakdale, La.; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Christine Perkins of Pitkin, La., Rita McCloskey of Cameron, La., and Wanda and Quinton Glaze of Norfolk, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
