Donald B. Nelson, 78, of Park Centre died of congestive heart failure Saturday, April 12, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor David Wendel officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call this afternoon at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the First United Methodist Church, NCEF Class of 1943, or The Salvation Army.

The son of Harry and Bonnie (Bryant) Nelson, he was born July 23, 1924, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1943 and graduated from Iowa State University in 1951. On June 26, 1948, he married Reva Awtry in Newton. He worked for the Maytag Company from 1956 to 1989, Senior Construction Engineer and Nelson Appliance from 1951 to 1956. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maytag Management Club, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Bonnie and Robert Jones of St. Peters, Mo., Kathleen and Bruce Rouw of Hampshire, Ill., and Julie and Robert Adams of West Des Moines; a brother; one sister; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
