MONROE - Sylvia Nearmyer, 88, of Monroe died Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Mesa, Ariz.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe with Pastor Robert Domokos officiating. The body was cremated. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

A family visitation will be held following the memorial service. Memorials will be accepted to Hilltop South in Pella or to the Monroe First Baptist Church.

The daughter of Newton and Catherine (Woody) Montgomery, she was born Sept. 13, 1914, in Blythdale, Mo. She was a 1932 graduate of Monroe High School. On Jan. 25, 1934, she married Forrest Nearmyer in Newton. She was a member of the Monroe First Baptist Church and lived most of her life in Monroe. She moved to Pella Hilltop South in 1993 and to Arizona six months ago.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Beverly Nearmyer of Reasnor; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryll and Dennis Weiler of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and two sisters.
