GRINNELL - Ervin Meredith, 73, of Grinnell died Saturday, April 5, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Meredith Friends Church in Grinnell with Pastor Pete Schular of Lynnville officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville.Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ervin Meredith Memorial Fund. Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is handling arrangements.
The son of Marshall and Velva (Vander Pol) Meredith, he was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Lynn Grove Township in Jasper County. He attended school in Searsboro and was a 1948 graduate of Lynnville High School. He later attended Iowa State University.
He was married to Marilyn Graham on June 30, 1949, in Nashua. The couple farmed in Sugar Creek and later Chester Townships prior to moving to Grinnell in 1986. While in Grinnell he was employed with the city water department until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Friends Church, Promise Keepers, Gilman Flying Club and Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Grinnell; his mother, Velva of Newton; four daughters, Shirley Milburn of Grinnell, Deborah Fath of Goshen, Ind., Teresa Meredith of Des Moines and Christy Berkenbosch of Adel; two sisters, Irma Jansen of Pella and Lois Witzky of El Paso, Texas; one brother, Bruce Meredith of Newton; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
His father preceded him in death.
