Young Baxter Woman Succumbs At St. Thomas Hospital, Marshalltown
Baxter, Ia. (Special to The Daily News) – Miss Esther Hampton, 24, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Hampton, died this morning at 2:30 o’clock at the St. Thomas hospital at Marshalltown.
Miss Hampton was born west of Baxter and had spent all her life in around this town.
Surviving are her parents, a sister, Mrs. Sheldon Morris, of Keota, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Veach of Rhodes and a niece, Arlene Kruseman of Keota.

Baxter, Ia. (Special to The Daily News) – Funeral rites for Miss Esther Hampton, 24, who died Saturday morning at the St. Thomas hospital at Marshalltown, were to be conducted this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Congregational church. Interment was to be in the Restland cemetery.

(Special to The Daily News) – Esther Lorene Hampton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hampton was born at the Hampton home 3 ˝ miles north west of Baxter on Sept. 24, 1916 and died at the St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown, Feb. 1, 1941, at the age of 24 years, four months and eight days.
In her early girlhood she expressed her faith in God and was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Rhodes, Ia., where she continued her membership.
When quite young she contracted pneumonia which recurred several times, making her life a constant fight against this disease. During the past year, however, she had so regained her strength as to be in almost perfect health.
On Jan. 31 she was suddenly seized with an illness which grew in intensity and severity until life was ended just 22 hours after being stricken with spinal meningitis.
She was taken to the St. Thomas hospital where medical care and loving hands helped to alleviate her suffering.
Esther had lived her entire life in this community where her life was an example to all.
Besides her parents she leaves one sister, Mrs. Fern Morris of Keota, her aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Veach of Rhodes; one niece, Arlene Kruseman of Keota and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 3 at 2 o’clock at the Congregational church with Rev. David E. Arnold and Rev. B. W. Northrop in charge. Burial was at Restland cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Cecil Weeks, Mrs. Arthur Dodd, and Rev. David E. Arnold with Mrs. Arnold as pianist.
Pallbearers were Fred Butler, Glenn Perry James McGrane, Alfred Flora, Donaldson and Lloyd Perry.
Floral arrangements by Mrs. John Boyd and Mrs. Wayne Miller.
