Denniston Rites Conducted Here
Final rites for Mrs. Nancy Elmine Denniston, 83, were conducted Friday afternoon, Dec. 27, at the Morgan Funeral home. Dr. L. B. Logan was in charge with interment following in the Mount Zion cemetery.
Pallbearers were W. N. Gallagher, Johnathan Lister, Homer Denniston, Roy Denniston, Victor Klopping and Lawrence Shankland.
Mrs. R. A. Ferring accompanied and Lois Hundling sang “Lead Kindly Light” and “Nearer My God to Thee.”
Nancy E. Wheeler was born Feb. 10, 1857 in a log cabin one mile north of Galesburg. She died Dec. 25, 1940 at the Skiff Memorial Hospital at Newton, Ia. Prior to entering the hospital she fell and fractured her hip, later suffering a light stroke.
She had always made her home in Jasper county.
On Feb. 24, 1876, she was united in marriage with George V. Denniston near Monroe. Mr. Denniston was a farmer and a stockman.
For 45 years she had made her home at 609 South Third avenue East. Mr. Denniston preceded her in death about seven years ago.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. W. H. Lister, and a brother, Todd Wheeler.
She was a member of the First Methodist church and of the Three Quarter Century club of the Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record.
