400 Present at Dickerson Rites
Over 400 persons were in attendance at the funeral service for Ray Dickerson, 47, Monday afternoon at the Toland Funeral home. Mr. Dickerson died Dec. 27 in an attempt to save Henry Lynch from death with illuminating gas. Rev. James F. Phillips officiated at the funeral.
Pallbearers were Benny Bouber, Vernon Richardson, Tom Elliott, Tom Henning, Frank McCumber and Bill Beckham. Interment was at the Palo Alto cemetery.
Mrs. Cloyd Fahrney and Mrs. R. S. Trevathan, accompanied by Mrs. H. L. Redeen sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beautiful Isle of somewhere.”
Mrs. A. S. Huffman, Mrs. Tom Elliott and Mrs. Frank Oliver arranged the flowers.
Ray Dickerson, son of True and Rose Dickerson, was born in Newton, Nov. 15, 1893 and had spent his entire life here. He was married to Rose Samuels in 1917.
Surviving are his wife, five children, Mrs. Guy Rogers, Glen, Madeline, Gene and Janice, his mother, Mrs. Rose Turner of Newton; six brothers, Bryan, Ted and Clifford, all of Newton, Frank and Carroll; both of Kewanee, Ill., and Roy of Ladysmith, Wis.
His father died April 25, 1922.
