Dr. Caldwell Rites Are Held In Des Moines
Des Moines, IA – Dr. Jesse Cobb Caldwell, professor of history of religion at Drake University and former dean of the Bible college, died at his home in Des Moines Saturday morning following a three-day illness.
For the last year and a half, Dr. Caldwell had been a part-time minister of the Kellogg, Ia., Christian church.
Funeral services were to be held at 1:30 o’clock this afternoon in Dunn's Funeral home.
Dr. Caldwell, 68, became ill last Wednesday and had not met with his classes Thursday and Friday. He became ill after breakfast Saturday and died of a heart blood clot.
Dr. Caldwell’s death was the third among Drake University leaders in recent weeks. Dr. D. W. Morehouse, president, died Jan. 21, and E. C. Lytton, business manager of the university, died Feb. 12.

Kellogg, Ia. (Special to The Daily News) – Funeral services for Dr. Jesse Cobb Caldwell, instructor in the department of religious education and formerly Dean of Men at Drake University, who died at his home in Des Moines Saturday morning, Feb. 22, following a three-day illness were held at the University Place Church of Christ, Des Moines, Monday afternoon, Feb. 24.
Music was furnished by the University choir of 40 voices.
The Rev. Jack Finnegan of Ames spoke of his association with the Rev. Caldwell as a student and of the leadership inspired by that association. The Rev. Sandsbury, pastor of the University church read appropriate scripture.
Burial was made in Glendale cemetery in Des Moines. Surviving relatives include his widow and two daughters.
Among those from the local church in attendance at the rites were Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Nesmith, Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Guessford, Mrs. C. W. Woodward, Mrs. R. S. Dunn, Mrs. J. H. Nesmith, Mrs. B. E. Craven, Mrs. Byrd Veber, Mrs. Mabel Veber, Louise Shill, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Hawley, Mrs. Lillian Lemke and J. W. Vinall.
