IOWA CITY - Thadd R. Hoagland, 29, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died of complications of cancer Wednesday, Feb. 12, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton with Pastor Danny Hodges officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call today after 4 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of R. L. "Bud" Hoagland and Sherry F. Geurts, he was born Jan. 4, 1974, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1992 and Drake University in 1997. He grew up in Newton and lived in Newton until 1992, when he moved to Des Moines. He worked for Keebler Company for eight years as a territory manager. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sherry F. and Danny "Bud" Bishop of Iowa City, his father and step-mother, R. L. "Bud" Hoagland and Karla Jordan of Monroe; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Todd and Carlette Hoagland of Iowa City, Rodd Hoagland and Chadd Hoagland, both of Monroe, and Rich Samuelson of Brooklyn; maternal grandfather, Melvin Geurts of Lynnville; step grandmothers, Judy Bishop of Newton and Virginia Kingrey of Monroe; and a niece, nephew and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents.
