Max S. Hesson, 82, of 2832 N. 35th Ave. W. died of cardiac arrest Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor David Wendel officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Mooseheart and may be left at the funeral home or the church.

The son of Glenn C. and Mae (lske) Hesson, he was born May 26, 1920, in Newton. He attended Jasper County schools.

On Jan. 21, 1943, he married Elsie Cooper in Newton. He farmed all his life in Jasper County, northwest of Newton. He was a life member of Moose Lodge No. 923, Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and Wittemberg Church in rural Newton.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve and Pauline Hesson of Newton and Tim Hesson of Des Moines; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Nick Holdt and Peggy and Robert Vance, all of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friend, Ruth O'Brien of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son and a brother.
