C. Wayne Brown, 72, of Newton died of congestive heart failure Thursday, March 27, at his home.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pence Funeral Home in Newton with Tim Johnson of the Newton VFW officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in the Veteran's Section.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.

The son of George M. and Daisy (Fugard) Brown, he was born Jan. 12, 1931, in Newton. He attended Newton Senior High School and on Oct. 4, 1953, he married Janice M. James. He worked in scheduling for Rock Island Railroad and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and coffee time at Hy-Vee.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Scott W. and Kelsie Brown of Newton; a grandson; and a twin sister, Lois Ferguson of Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
