Larry Paul Shank
April 28, 1947 - January 8, 2024

Larry Paul Shank, age 76 of Prairie City, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at his home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family and checks may be made payable to Karla Shank. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Max and Darlene (Halfhill) Shank, Larry was born on April 28, 1947, in Corydon, Iowa. He graduated from the Vinton School for the Blind. On April 14, 1979, he was united in marriage to Karla Gildersleeve. Larry worked as an orderly at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for 20 years. Larry loved animals, especially his dogs. He helped the Des Moines Kennel Club teaching confirmation classes, going to dog shows, and enjoyed traveling. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Drake Men's Basketball team. He had a great sense of humor. Larry was a member of the Des Moines Kennel Club, Samoyed Club of America, and the Samoyed Association of Minneapolis/St. Paul (SAMS). Larry also was a previous member of the Des Moines Obedience Club.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Karla; two sons, Michael Shank and Erik Shank and his mother-in-law, Donna Gildersleeve. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Gary Shank, a sister, Judy Terrell, a step brother, Clair “Sonny” Mason, Jr. and a step sister, Bonnie Luzenski.
