Ronald E. Marvelli, 91, of Newton died on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Mercy Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Newton. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Westwood Golf Course or Iowa Department of Natural Resources – Fish and Wildlife Trust Fund may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ron, the son of Anthony and Lucille (Pyle) Marvelli, was born on August 6, 1932, in Pershing, Iowa. He was raised in Marion and Mahaska County and graduated from high school in Tracy. Ron served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Upon his return, he worked for the Veterans Administration and graduated from William Penn University where he played on the baseball team.

Ron worked for the Department of Human Services and the Department of Health for the State of Iowa in Des Moines for 36 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton.

On September 8, 1967, Ron was united in marriage with Diane Whittlesey. In 1978, they made their home on an acreage near Newton where they would raise their four boys. Ron enjoyed hunting with his boys and was an avid golfer. He also loved to follow the high school and collegiate golf careers of his sons and grandson.

Ron is survived by his wife, Diane; five sons, Joey (Brenda) of Knoxville, Shane (Lori) of Wisconsin, Shad (Lynette) of Newton, Jason (Stephanie) of Indianola, and Ryan of Colorado; grandchildren, Dustin Marvelli, Nathan Marvelli, Madison (Ian) Christy, Jacob Marvelli, Marcelina Marvelli, Anna Marvelli, and Tristan Marvelli; 13 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Fred (Melinda) Marvelli of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe and Jack Marvelli, both of Sacramento, California; daughter, Rhonda in 2002; and his wife, Yvonne in 1965.
