Charles Maxwell of Collins Dies
Charles A. Maxwell, 83, rural route Collins, died at the home of his son Leon, Collins, June 23 after several weeks illness.
Maxwell, son of Henry and Irene Maxwell, was born in Marion County near Knoxville Jan. 9, 1878. He moved with his parents to Jasper County when an infant and attended schools in the Mingo area.
He married Mary L. Stock on Nov. 20, 1898 at Newton. His wife preceded him in death on June 27, 1950.
A well-known farmer and stock buyer, Maxwell had lived in northwest Jasper County his entire lifetime except for the years since 1955 when he has lived with his children.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Myrtle) Denman of Bonita Springs, Fla., Mrs. Jack (Daisy) Santen of Newton and Mrs. David (Ruth) Sonner of Des Moines; seven sons, Henry A. of Lufkin, Tex., Howard of Salem, Ore., Earnest of Collins, Clarence of Collins, Ralph of Mingo, Leon or Collins and Forrest of Collins; 30 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Will (Carrie) Owens of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons, Paul an infant, and Frank, four sisters and three brothers.
Maxwell had been a member of the Ashton Chapel Church, the Three-Quarter County Club at Newton, had been secretary of the Ashton School Board at one time, had been road supervisor of the Clear Creek Township for several years and had also been a constable for Clear Creek Township.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 26. Prayer service will be held at 1:30 p. m. at the Boyd-Nickel Funeral Home in Baxter. Church services will be held at the Ashton Chapel Church west of Baxter at 2 p. m. The Rev. Max Hall will officiate followed by burial in the Ashton Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 1:30 p. m. Monday.
