Norma K. Russell, 90, of Newton died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services were held today at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Potter of Newton officiating. Burial was at Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorials will be accepted to the United Presbyterian Church Sunday Morning Worship radio broadcasts and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Otto Peter and Hertha (Harmsen) Thaden, she was born Aug. 3, 1915, in Tama County. On Aug. 10, 1952, she married Richard E. Russell in Gladbrook.

She was a homemaker and member of the United Presbyterian Church and TOPS. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, her daily devotions and bus trips.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Gary (Joyce) Russell of Newton; a daughter, Kathy (Dan) Masterson of Monroe; a step-daughter, Karla Deppe of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ude Thaden of Marshalltown; and a sister, Alice Morton of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; three brothers, Clarence, Lester and Werner Thaden; and a sister, Bernice Dostal.
