COLFAX — Phoebe Ann Lester, 82, of Colfax died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Howard Street Christian Church or to the Colfax Ambulance Service.

The daughter of Lloyd A. and Bertha M. (Tomlinson) Thomas, she was born March 1, 1923. She graduated from Mingo High School in 1940.

She married F. Durlyn Lester at The Grand Hotel of Colfax on March 2, 1941. She enjoyed gardening, dressing chickens and putting up sweet corn.

She was a member of a Pinochle Club, a mixed bowling league, the Sandhill Grange and TOPS in Newton. She also was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax and planned and helped serve at countless funeral and wedding luncheons.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan A. (Robert A.) Riley of Colfax; three grandsons; a sister, Marjorie Van Hoosen of Des Moines; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lester was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Charles D. Thomas and Hiram A. Thomas; and two sisters, Illa Hunter-Snook and Alice Battles.
