Donald E. "Don" Johnson, 81, of Newton died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Lauris Meek of the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home Tuesday. Memorials to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Raymond and Juanita (Hall) Johnson, he was born April 30, 1924, in Chariton. On June 25, 1945, he married Dorothy M. Becker in Bloomfield.

He worked in the factory of the Maytag Company for 30 years and retired in 1984. He enjoyed mushrooming, antiques, money collecting, listening to old country music. He also enjoyed farming and selling sweet corn for 10 years. He attended the Newton Life Community Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul (Carol) Johnson of Newton; a daughter, Shirley (Jim) Jacobsen of Des Moines; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene (Ralph) Wright of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Warren, Dale and Charles Johnson; and a sister, Marjorie Johnson.
