MESA, Ariz. — Richard N. Blackwood, 69, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Newton, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at The Chaplain Lung Center in Orange, Calif.
The body was cremated and no services were held.

The son of Fred and Myrtle (Nelson) Blackwood, he was born March 3, 1936, in Collins. He graduated from Cambridge High School.

On July 7, 1973, he married Roma Lee Scoville at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was an air traffic controller. He was a longtime resident of Newton and worked in machine repair at the Maytag Company until he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Russ Blackwood of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Penny Cope of Butte, Mont., and Debbie Harris of New Iberia, La.; two step-daughters, Carol (Keith) Eads of Mesa, Ariz., and Dixie (Randy) DeReus of Kellogg; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Robbins of Des Moines and Margaret (Peg) Britson of Webster City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
