C. W. Birchard Dies at Hospital; Rites Saturday
Carroll Willard Birchard, 67, of 222 E. Fourth St. N., a resident of Newton since 1917, died Thursday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Father R L Gilliam, rector of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Mr. Birchard will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at Johnson Chapel. The casket will not be opened at any time.
Memorial contributions to the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church will be made.
Mr. Birchard is survived by his wife, Janet; a daughter, Mrs Paul (Mary) Peck of newton; a granddaughter, Mrs. Arthur (Mary Janet) Ergenbright of newton; two great-grandchildren and a cousin, Mrs. Elmer Starrett of Newton.
Mr. Birchard was a member of the St. Stephens Episcopal church, was treasurer of the Episcopal Men of Iowa; was past and senior warden of St Stephen’s Episcopal Church in 1952.
The son of Eugene and Laura Parsons Birchard, he was born Feb. 5, 1897 at Killduff.
Mr. Birchard was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Newton.
Born in Killduff, he moved to Kellogg in 1900 and to Newton in 1917.
He was married to Janet Loyer Feb. 26, 1919.
