Mrs. L. Van Rees Dies at Hospital; Services Monday
Sully – Mrs. Leendert (Lane) Van Rees, 84, a longtime resident of the Sully community, died at 3 a.m. today at the Pella Hospital.
Mrs. Johanna Van Rees had undergone successful eye surgery at the University Hospitals in Iowa City two weeks ago and was being returned to her home Sunday when she suffered a stroke. She was taken immediately to the Pella Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Christian Reformed Church in Sully. A family prayer service will be held at 1:15 p.m. in the church basement.
The Rev. Bernard A. Van Zomeren, minister of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.
Van Dyke-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Van Rees is survived by her husband; four sons, Lawrence, Cecil and Edward, all of Sully; and the Rev. William Van Rees of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers, Dirk and William Vos of Pella and seven sisters, Mrs. Maggie Van Genderen, Mrs. Cynthia Colsman, Mrs. Louisa Volksland and Mrs. Dora Ballast, all of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Jennie Meppelink of Pella, Mrs. Nellie Herder of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Marie Monsma of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 20 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Clarence, in 1942 and three brothers.
The daughter of William and Clazina Van Mersbergen Vos, she was born Jan. 26, 1881 in Sparang Noord Bradant, The Netherlands.
She came to the United States at the age of nine.
She was married to Leendert (Lane) Van Reese, Dec. 16, 1904 at Sully.
