Mrs. Phoebe Poorbaugh Who Died at Her Home in Colfax, Friday, February 1, 1907
Miss Phoebe Lint was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 4, 1835, being one of a family of one son and ten daughters, of whom seven daughters are living. In October 1859 the family came to Iowa, locating near Greencastle, in Jasper county, where Phoebe married Henry Poorbaugh, December 1, 1859. Seven children were the fruits of this union, five daughters and two sons. One son died in childhood. The husband and father died eight years ago at the farm home one and a half miles north of this city, where the family had resided many years.
About six years ago, Mrs. Poorbaugh came and made her home in Colfax, and a year ago her health began to fail, her suffering at times being extreme. During the last few weeks she felt that she could not recover and was resigned to the call of death’s angel, passing peacefully away on Friday afternoon of last week surrounded by her children who have so tenderly and lovingly ministered to her needs.
Mrs. Poorbaugh united with the Evangelical church in early life, but a few months ago placed her membership with the Presbyterian church of this city. She was a woman respected and loved by her neighbors; a kind friend, an unselfish and loving wife and mother.
Besides her children, she leaves nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Hiram Hurst, of Mingo, Iowa, is at present quite ill, and unable to attend the obsequies of her mother. Mrs. Kinney, a sister of the deceased, and her daughter of Des Moines, Henry Poorbaugh, of Mingo, and Harry Turner of Valeria, nephews, were the only relatives beside the immediate family from out of town at the funeral.
The funeral of Mrs. Henry Poorbaugh was held from her late home last Sunday at 2 o’clock p.m., Rev. Buchanan, of the Presbyterian church, conducting the services. Regardless of the severity of the weather a large assemblage of friends was present to pay their last respects to the deceased. The floral tributes were beautiful and many – silent tokens of the honor and love with which she was held. The interment was at McKeever cemetery.
