Joyce Penny, 42, Dies Tuesday; Rites Saturday
Colfax – Mrs. James (Joyce) Penny, 42, of Rt. 1, Colfax, a resident of the Colfax community for a year and half, died Tuesday evening at the Des Moines General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Reese Chapel in Newton.
The Rev. Edward Susic, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Memorial contributions to the oncology department of Des Moines General Hospital will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. Thursday until time of services Saturday.
Survivors are her husband; two sons, Anthony Hendrickson of Collins and Jonas Hendrickson of Ankeny; a step-son, James R. Penny of Rt. 1, Colfax; two daughters, Christina Hendrickson of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Tamula Hendrickson of Ponca City, Okla.; a step-daughter, Mary J. Penny of Newton; and four grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Larry Reed of Searsboro, Dennis Reed of Newton, Gordon Reed of Indianola and Jerry Reed of Ankeny; two sisters, Linda Rice of Altoona and Janet Strand of Iowa City; her mother, Ruby Reed of Grinnell; and her maternal grandparents, Gordon and Nora Harbor of Grinnell.
She was preceded in death by her father and a daughter.
Mrs. Penny, an assembler at the Maytag Co., was a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997.
The daughter of William and Ruby Lincoln Reed, she was born May 4, 1940 at Grinnell and was educated in Grinnell schools.
She was married Dec. 23, 1978 in Des Moines.
