Marion W. Pease Passed Away Friday After Long Illness
Marion Walter Pease, a drummer boy in the Civil War, and pioneer resident of this community passed away at his home in Colfax Friday, Sept. 7th, 1928 of senile pneumonia. He has been ill for a goodly number of weeks, each day rowing weaker from the continued strain on his system, until he took pneumonia and passed out of this world of suffering.
He was one of the well-known men of the community, always taking an active part in Memorial Day celebrations and the G.A.R. He was a drummer boy in the Civil War and had ever kept up his interest in the fife and drum corps until his health became so bad he was unable to keep it up longer.
He was a retired farmer and since leaving the farm had made Colfax his home.
Marion W. Pease was born in Richland county, Ohio, April 8, 1840. He was the son of Andrew and Joanna Pease of Washington county, Penn.
In 1856 he came to Jasper county which has ever since been his home. When 16 years of age he enlisted in Co. B 48th Regiment Iowa Infantry and was honorably discharged Oct. 21st, 1864.
In 1868 he was united in marriage to Kate LeTeure(sic), who passed away March 25, 1921. To this union three children were born, two having preceded him in death, leaving one son, Galen Pease of Colfax, Iowa. He also leaves one brother, Hugh A. Pease of Colfax, four grandsons, Reed and Claire Pease, Marion and Harold Dimmick, one granddaughter, June Dimmick and three great-grandchildren, Robert, Janet and James Howard Pease.
Funeral services were conducted from the home Sunday afternoon, with Rev. E. G. Williams of Des Moines officiating. Interment was made at McKeever cemetery.
