Earl Willard “Sonny” Miller Sr., 58, of 2412 S.E. Eighth St. died Friday at home. The cause of death is unknown, pending the results of an autopsy. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southtown Funeral Home, with burial at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax.
Mr. Miller was born in Iowa City and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He had worked for the maintenance department of the U.S. Postal Service, was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Air National Guard, Clive American Legion and Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie; three daughters, Laurie Carslus of Des Moines and Marilyn Ashburn and Debbie Carey, both of Omaha; four sons, Frank of Des Moines and Earl Jr., Darrell and Rick, all of Omaha; a stepson, Daniel Smith of Des Moines; four sisters, Lydia Shipley of Des Moines, Virginia Sprouse of Ames and Jackie Cannon and Jeannie Wells, both of Afton; three brothers, Kenny and Raymond, both of Des Moines, and George of Marshalltown; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
