Thos. Merritt, formerly of this place, died at Des Moines last Friday. His remains were brought here Saturday for interment in the McKeever cemetery. He leaves four sisters and one brother. Mrs. Amanda Gardner, of Oakland, Cal., Mrs. Sarah Holmes, of Iowa City, Mrs. Anna Slavens, of Colfax, Mrs. Eva Wilce, of Chicago, and Everett Podley living west of Newton. He was a brother of the late Mrs. Harry Phillips. His age was about fifty-six years.
