Charles W. Sage Dies on Thursday; Services Sunday
Colfax – Charles William Sage, 83, of Colfax died east of Centerville after suffering a heart attack while returning from a trip.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Howard Street Christian Church.
The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Memorial contributions to the Howard Street Christian Church or the Colfax Senior Citizens will be accepted.
Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax after 10 a.m. Saturday.
Survivors are a son, Harry of Colfax; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Luther of Mingo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim of Odessa, Tex., and Alfred of Pine river, Minn., and a sister, Everilda Rowley of Long Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1973, a son, Frank, and three brothers.
Mr. Sage, who was chosen Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1978, was a former city councilman.
He was a member of the Howard St. Christian Church, in which he had served as a deacon, a member of the Colfax Kiwanis club, and Hill Grange, and was a member and past president of the Colfax Senior Citizens.
A former miner in the Colfax area, Mr. Sage had served as a custodian in the Colfax Schools for 37 years.
The son of William and Jane Dunn Sage, he was born Dec. 10, 1898 in Brotten, Yorkshire, England.
He was married to Mary Sage Nov 27, 1923 in Colfax.
