Chas. Wm. Sage, Former Resident, Died Friday
Funeral Services Held Sunday From Colfax M.E. Church
Charles William Sage, 77, former Colfax resident, died Friday, October 21st at the home of his son-in-aw, Robert Phoenix in Chariton, Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Colfax Methodist church with Rev. Russell G. Nye, the pastor officiating.
Mr. Sage was born March 1, 1861 to Samuel and Caroline Sage, at Port Mulgrave, Yorkshire, England, and died October 21, 1938, at Chariton, Iowa, aged 77 years, 7 months and 19 days.
In 1884 with his brothers, William and James, he came to America and began work in the coal mines at Oswalt and for many years was a resident of this community, later working in the mines around Des Moines and Chariton. Before coming to America he had worked in the iron mines in England.
For the past two or three years, Mr. Sage had been a constant sufferer of asthma.
He is survived by one son Chas. Wm. Sage of Des Moines, a daughter Mary Ann Phoenix died in 1936, a granddaughter Elizabeth Phoenix, two brothers, William Sage of Colfax and James Sage of Des Moines; nephews, Charles, James and Thomas Sage of Colfax, Alfred Sage, Des Moines, Ale Sage of Omaha, Nebr., Sam Sage of England, Ben Beckham, George Beckham and Chas. Beckham and a niece, Mrs. Everilda Rowley of California.
Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Alfred Tobias with Miss Eleanor Howell at the organ.
Pall bearers were Chas. Sage, Ben and George Beckham, George Nichols, Chas. Beckham and Harry Barbour.
Burial was in the McKeever cemetery.
