PELLA — Marie Vos, 85, of Pella, formerly of Jasper County, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Jefferson Place Nursing Center.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Memorials will be accepted to the Bible League or the Christian Opportunity Center.

The daughter of Gerrit and Evalena (Van Ryswyk) Branderhorst, she was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Mitchellville. She attended country grade school in Prairie City, completing eighth grade. She worked in various farm families' homes in the Prairie City area.

On Aug. 30, 1939, she married John M. Vos in Prairie City. She and her husband farmed in the Prairie City area until moving to Pella in 1961, when he began his career in construction, and eventually became the construction supervisor with Vermeer Manufacturing Company.

Mrs. Vos worked for a short time as a nurse's aide at the Pella Nursing Home and for many years as a ward clerk. She dedicated 19 years working at the Pella Community Hospital. After her husband died in 1998, she continued to live at the Pella Manor until April of 2002, when her health needs necessitated more advanced care and she moved to Jefferson Place Nursing Center.

She was a charter member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she was active in ladies societies and in the caregiver program. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, as well as many new church families that visited Calvary during the years. She and her husband annually traveled crosscountry to visit family. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, playing games and cards and baking — especially her famous cinnamon rolls.

She is survived by her children, Melvin (Jean) Vos of Centennial, Colo., Carolyn (Arvin) Vander Wilt of Pella, Wayne (Tena) Vos of Prospect, Ore., John (Chris) Vos of Annapolis, Md., and Robert (Mary Jane) Vos of Redondo Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred (William) Vander Hoek of Monroe, Esther (Dr. William) Wellington of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Pearl (Riley) Van Zee of Newton; brothers, William (Jennie) Branderhorst of Newton, Marvin (Pauline) Branderhorst of Pella, Gerrit R. (Willa) Branderhorst of Pella; and brother-in-law, Case Van Soelen of Sully.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her siblings, Dorothy (Albert) De Koning, Wilma M. (Harold) Van Zee and Leona Van Soelen; and two infant siblings, Esther and John.
