Susan M. Sharp, 69, of rural Jasper County died of cancer Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at her home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Mike Johnson, pastor of the Carlisle Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Red Cross.

The daughter of John and Osha Crabtree Powell, she was born May 9, 1936, on a farm in Poweshiek County. She later moved to a farm west of Kellogg and was a 1955 graduate of Kellogg High School. On Dec. 7, 1957, she married Casto Sharp in Des Moines, and the couple made their home near Kellogg.

She was employed for several years for Midwest Metal Stamping Company in Kellogg and with Hy-Vee in Newton. She later became a homemaker and raised her three boys. In 1999, the couple moved to their present home in Jasper County, near Oakland Acres.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ron of Knoxville, John of Newton and Willard of Madrid; and two brothers, Henry Powell of Newton and Eddie Powell of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Barry, Otto, Warren, Kenneth and Willard Powell; and two sisters, Eloise Peawick and Lisa Wagner.
