DES MOINES — Jerry D. Koder Sr., 63, of Des Moines, formerly of Jasper County, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Don Poole, pastor of Berean Assembly of God Church in Pleasant Hill, officiating. Burial will be at Dunreath Cemetery near Monroe.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.

The son of Elvin LeRoy and Catheryne Gwendolyn (Jack) Koder, he was born Dec. 9, 1941, in Monroe. He was a 1960 graduate of Prairie City High School.

On April 6, 1942, he married Dorothy Elaine Hudson at the Methodist Church in Prairie City. He worked as a telegrapher for 21 years for the Rock Island Railroad and was a local and division chairman of BRAC union. He enjoyed playing on the computer, fishing, hunting and going to the lake home.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jerry D. Jr. (Jill) Koder of Pleasantville, Mark Koder of Des Moines and Jeff (Julie) Koder of Monroe; two daughters, Catheryne (Bud) Hiemstra of Newton and Stephanie Roam of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Gene (Lorna) Koder of Baxter; two sisters, Sheryl (Jim) Fergeson and Sandy (Mel) Davis, all of Newton; his mother of Newton; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
