G. Junior Morton, 71, of Newton died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jim Olson of Zoar Church in rural Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Jesse Graydon and Wilma Irene (Allison) Morton, he was born Feb. 12, 1934, in Chariton. On June 5, 1953, he married Donna Goodhue in Newton.

He worked for the Maytag Company for 37 years and retired in 1989. He enjoyed antique cars, NASCAR racing, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of the Kaiser Car Club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dan (Julie) Morton of Des Moines, Tim Morton and Bruce (Shirley) Morton, all of Newton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother of Elkhart; and two brothers, Don (Celia) Morton of Elkhart and Larry (Gloria) Morton of Chariton.

He was preceded in death by his father, a grandson and a brother, Gerald Morton.
