Lewis H. Osborn, 85, of Newton died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Roger Russell of Wittemburg Church in rural northern Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Jasper County Historical Museum. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The son of LeRoy and LeOra (DeReuss) Osborn, he was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Ira. On June 1, 1941, he married Donna M. Hughes in Grinnell.

He was a farmer and, along with his family, did custom grain trucking. He and his wife owned and operated Osborn's Market in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and lived in the Ira area and for the last 63 years, lived in rural northern Newton.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lucille (John) Abbas of Wellsburg, Joyce and (G. Keith) Simmons of Newton and Eileen (Steve) Jones of Oskaloosa; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Osborn of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Esther Hammer.
