MONROE — Wayne C. Lubberden, 79, of Monroe died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Hospice of Central Iowa Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Monroe United Methodist Church.

The only son of Adrian and Margaret (Veenstra) Lubberden, he was born March 18, 1926, in Pella. He graduated from Pella High School in 1944 and was drafted into military service before the graduation ceremony. He entered the U.S. Navy as an electrician's mate on a submarine chaser. In 1946, he returned from the service and became a lineman for the City of Pella.

He married Kathryn "Kay" Heemstra in May of 1948. He was self-employed in the plumbing and heating business before becoming a salesman for A.Y. McDonald in Des Moines for 29 years.

He became a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church in 1967. He also served on the Monroe City Council and Fire Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Monroe Methodist Men's Group, Newton Masonic Lodge No. 59 AF/AM, New York Rite Bodies and ZaGaZig Shrine. His hobbies included boating and building.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Rita (Craig) Rostenbach of Bondurant; a son, Michael (Sheryl) Lubberden of Pella; and two grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents.
