COLFAX — George E. Lind, 87, of Colfax died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held today at 10 a.m. at the Colfax First United Methodist Church. Burial was at Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Colfax Senior Citizen Center or the United Methodist Church. Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

The son of Elmer Otto and Clara (Winslow) Lind, he was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Metz. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1936.

On March 18, 1944, he married Esther Alexander in Metz. A lifetime resident of the Colfax area, he owned and operated Lind Implement in Colfax from 1949 until 1992.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Colfax and a 50-year member of the Sugar Grove Grange, where he served as past grange master. He also was a member of the Iowa Farm Implement Retailer Association and the Colfax Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Lind enjoyed traveling and got to see most of the world on trips that he had received through his business.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Caroline) Lind and Marvin and his friend Kim Hall, all of Colfax; a daughter-in-law, Judy Lind of Colfax; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters and brother, Ruth Wadsworth, Lois Beals and Evelyn (Keith) Nicodemus, all of Colfax, and Eldon (Marilyn) Lind of Ankeny.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and a son.
