Deryl Dee Krauss, 76, of 1006 W. Fifth St. S. died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Knoxville Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans' Section at Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be held at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Charles and Mary (Smock) Krauss, he was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Hartley. He graduated from the Archer Senior High School.

On Sept. 2, 1966, he married Masako Takamizu in Tokyo, Japan. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1968 during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He lived most of his life in Jasper County and was employed by Newton Public Schools, working as a custodian for Emerson Hough Elementary School. He was a member of VFW Post. 1655.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (David) Sandvig of Olathe, Kan.; three grandchildren; a sister, Marvis (John) Van Maanen of Lakewood, Calif.; a brother, Larry (Margaret) Krauss of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
