Ilis I. Hodgson, 79, of Newton died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Charles and Agnes (Gibson) Smith, she was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Jasper County. On Sept. 4, 1944, she married Harry R. Hodgson in Hollywood, Calif. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Newton. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing dominos and family dinners.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda S. Gildow of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Susan Pelzer of Newton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (Jeanne) Smith and Chris (Barbara) Smith, all of Newton; two sisters, Helen (Clarence) Faidley of Prairie City and Judy (Dale) Berg of Colfax.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Tom Pelzer; and five brothers, Lawrence, Hugh, Bill, Dennis and James Smith.
