WICHITA, Kan. — Marvin G. Harger, 72, formerly of Newton, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan.
Graveside services were held Thursday at Blackwell Cemetery with Glen Cope of Tonkawa officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Blackwell American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Roberts and Son Funeral Home in Wichita, Kan., handled arrangements.
Memorials may be sent to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation — Diabetes Research, 825 N.E. 13th St., Oklahoma City, Okla. 73104.
The son of Frank and Edith (Burt) Harger, he was born Nov. 22, 1932, in Columbia. He grew up in Iowa, living in Newton for a time.
He married Lillian Sullins in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force, serving from Dec. 5, 1950, to Aug. 1, 1955.
He drove truck cross country for various trucking companies prior to working for Clearwater Trucking in Wichita. He continued truck driving until an accident forced his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Iris Walker of Roe, Ark.; a son, Jerry Wayne Harger of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Evelyn Mohler of Newton and Norma Counter of Wichita; a brother, Frank Harger Jr. of Newton ; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Vernon Harger.
