Betty L. Eckardt, 75, of Belle Plaine, formerly of Baxter and Mingo, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at her home in Belle Plaine.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Eldon Nolte of the Mingo United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials will be accepted to Amenity Hospice of Cedar Rapids or to the Leukemia Society of America. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Jesse Ross and Maymie Pearl (Petershon) Bailey, she was born June 28, 1930, in Creston. On April 12, 1947, she married Leland Donald Eckardt in Troy, Kan. She was a stencil cutter at The Vernon Company for 28 years and retired in 1990. She was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge No. 923 in Newton and the Young Women's Lodge.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary L. (Cary) McMurray of Blacksburg, Va., Joyce M. Eckardt of Littleton, Colo., Vicky L. (Robert) Johnson of Magnolia, Texas, and Cindy L. (Gary) Argo of Belle Plaine; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob (Delores) Bailey of Winterset, Gary (Connie) Bailey of Winterset and Bill (Marge) Bailey of Enid, Okla.; two sisters, Phyllis (Donald) Clark of Afton and Ruby (Ronnie) Cornelison of Afton; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Bailey of Afton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Dick Bailey.
