Helen D. Bunten, 97, of Newton died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
No visitation is scheduled.

The daughter of William and Ida Crummond, she was born Dec. 2, 1907, in Sioux City. She lived in Sioux City most of her life and moved to Newton in 1992. On July 17, 1927, she married Howard Lee Bunten. She was a graduate of Central High School in Sioux City in 1926. She enjoyed knitting and making afghans for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with her friends and relatives.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Richard) Mielke of Newton and Laura Blakesley of Oceanside, Calif.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Frame of Protage, Ind., and Mildred Matheson of Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Douglas, Wilbur, Charlie and Sheldon Drummond; and a sister, Esther Iwerks.
